From the Principal's Desk

Misty Kirby

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year at the Monroe County Advanced Learning Center (ALC), where we are growing the next generation of achievers, leaders, and communicators to make a difference. It is a great honor for me to serve as the ALC's principal. Education is my passion, and I am blessed to work among other educators in our district who strive to make Monroe County students THE BEST!

A native of Monroe County, I currently reside in Amory, MS with my husband and three children. After graduating from Smithville High, I completed undergraduate studies at Itawamba Community College and Mississippi State University...Hail State! I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Educational Psychology with a minor in Counselor Education before obtaining my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification in English Language Arts. An alumnus of The Long Blue Line at Mississippi University for Women, I furthered my education by earning a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership. During my 21 year career, I have served in various capacities within general and special education fields in the elementary, middle school and high school settings. I have been blessed to impact students' and educators' lives as a classroom teacher, inclusion teacher, behavioral therapist, career and technical assistant director, assistant principal, and principal. Being a lifelong learner inspires me to continue passing the torch in the greatest field of study, the words of one of my greatest mentors, Ms. Nancy Burleson, "Learn to live; live to learn."

At the Monroe County ALC, we challenge our students to cultivate qualities of character, excellence, creativity, and service so that they can become well-rounded citizens who make positive contributions to society. It takes the entire village, and I welcome the opportunity to do just that. Here's to an exciting and rewarding school year for our students, faculty, and staff!
